I recently got a 2003 GMC 2500HD. Ive been hearing and feeling a poping noise coming from my rear and or front axle. At first I just thought it was some suspension noise from the 2 inch body lift. It only makes noises when I turn very sharp. Ive been driving it in my fields and doing donuts and what not and since then its been making these noises. Im hoping its something with my universal joints or somthin. Any ideas of what this could be? Thanks

How big of a problem are CV joints. Are they somethin to worry about right away....expensive....what causes it. It has a bigger set of tires on it. Could that be a cause of the wear?

Not sure on a chevy but ussually suspension lifts can make them wear out also bigger tires can expecially when you wheeling in 4wd and your front power hops or jerks around.

Is there anyway I can upgrade the CV joints or will I just have to replace them often.

I have a 2004 silverado and it does the same thing every since I got it. Personally I do not think its the CV's, my father has an 06 Z710 and it does the same thing just not near as bad

I bet them suckers are brutal expensive too.

Run them till they blow out

If it is the cv joints it should not make sounds in 2wd. And schould get louder when you turn sharp in 4wd. Almoast like a ratcheting sound.

If the sound is coming from the rear its not a cv joint thats fo shure.

Could be a CV, tierod, or ball joint problem, hard to tell with the info you gave us. Is it a fast reoccuring noise, or just one clunk?

A body lift will have no effect on the suspension, but adding wider/bigger tires and wheels it will. Judging by what you were doing when it started happening, I'd say it's a CV. They're not that hard to replace, and from what I remember not that expensive either.

My truck was making a clunking noise. Turned out I somehow snapped both of my leaf springs. I love spending money!

www.fullsizechevy.com is the place you need to be. Go into the offroad section and ask this same question. Your question will get answered :D

It's not a ratcheting noise...its about 2 real loud poping noises in a sharp turn. Sometimes the front will pop and other times the back. I'll take it to a garage and have em look at it. Depending on what it is ill just replace it myself. I posted it in that chevy truck forum. thanks guys
