need advice on buyin a dirtbike

ok so if anyone on here remembers who i am im a bmxer but im tryin to get into motocross not for racing but just for fun, somethin to do while im not racing my bike. me and my friend that i ride dirtbikes with are at the honda place gettin a tube and i ask him if they have any good used bikes for a cheap and reasonable price when he says he has a cr250 out back for $2000. not sure what year it was but the guy told me the owner had just put alot of stuff into it but all i really remember was an fmf fatty pipe. im 16 and i weigh 160 and im 6'0 so do you think i would be alright on a 250 or should i go with a 125 to start out with as my first bike. ive rode a 125 and they just dont have the power id like to have i want somethin that will stand up on the back wheel easier and i just wanna jump around on the local tracks which is a private owned track called bobs and rolling hills. i have never rode a 250 before so please give some advice

the first bike i rode was a kdx 220 then a cr250 then a few 125's. i personally like 125's more because of where the power kicks in. and you should find out more details on that cr. 2000-2001 were very strong bikes. pingertalk.com is a good forum for 2strokes. i might be able to answer any other questions.

What year 125 did you ride? The newer the faster they are. I would def start out on a 125 for a first bike... 250's are monsters, especially being a lightweight at 160.

im 5'8 and 160-165 and 250's just hit too hard for my taste, you dont really have 100% control of them all the time. for your first bike, i wouldnt go all out on a 250. a 125 should be enough for you to get hurt on.

i can wheelie mine in first,second, or third. i jump a 25 foot double every time i ride in mid 1st gear. my friend who has a yz125 can wheelie in any gear, 1-6th.

what is it, cr,yz,rm,sx,kx? any its 100% stock. does it need a new rear tire and is the chain tight. and hows the compression?

i have a 2001 cr125 with a pipe and filter and new tire and tight new chain/sprockets and it lifts up in 1st 2nd 3rd whenever i want. my buddys 2002 cr125 with alot of mods does the same and the 2006 yz (stock) does it in 1-3rd too. i think its your friends bike or you.

Well those are the only 2 things it could be... Make sure you keep the Rpm's high and ride out the balance point. I have a friend that can ride a wheelie better on a 110 then a cr250. Its all about throttle control and rider posture.

well 250 4 strokes have alot more torque than a 125. same horses though. if the bike has a good motor, newer rear tire, and a tight chain, it has to be the rider.

there good bikes, as long as you can maintain them. change oil, oil filter, and clean airfilter at least every other ride and you'll be okay. if you have the money for a 250F, go for it. if not, a used 125 is easier to maintain/rebuild, but 125's are just harder to be fast on.

cheap and 250F really dont go along. you can find a nice 2001-2002 yz250f for about $2,000. try to stay away from the 2004 kxf/rmz250's. all crf's are good bikes. every year yz250f is really nice.
