What will be the big changes for me going from a 660 raptor to a 400 ex... Will the drop in power be THAT insane? How about ease of riding?

Thanks

400ex will be lighter and handle better. there wont be a huge diffrence in the low end (400 ex has alot of low end too.) the raptor is faster in the top end, the 400ex will beat it in the the end with a good cam. and you will break down much less with the honda!

my 400ex with stg. 2 hot cam, 416 10.8:1 piston, and 450 carb is faste then my buddies piped and jetted raptor.

I traded my 2001 kx250 and kdx220 both on a 2002 400ex and i don't regret it one bit. I miss the power and spped of the kx but ive had this 400ex for over a month now with no problems. Ive rode with a guy with a raptor and in the tight stuff the 400ex will walk all over it because of the weight and handling issues. Only when it comes to long open stretches the raptor will pull away but i was suprised by how little it pulled away from me.

Honda Yamadog need i say more.
No really the are both good machine and the first guy nailed it on the head. 400EX will take it all the way around BUT NOT top end if you are in the trails you will be the top dog.

The raptor is quite a bit faster then the ole 400 but IMO the 400 handles better

I think the difference in top speed is quite significant. I have only ridden one raptor and it was much faster than my 416ex in the top end. I agree that in the low end the 400ex will hang with the raptor.

As for handling there is no comparison. The 400ex will handle much better than the raptor. I have about 1 mile of woods style track at my house. I was very slow through this tight and technical track on the raptor. My buddy and I have very similar riding skills. I can usually stay right behind him through the entire track. On the raptor, when he finished a lap, I had about an 1/8 of a mile to go.

So, yes there is a significant difference in top end. But, in most riding conditions, other than a drag race, the 400ex will prevail.

I own both bikes with somewhat different mods. Raptor is 13:1, lots of mx additions, no bore. 400 is tricked out big time. The raptor rides like a caddy because of the wide frame, has more torque, less mid, but takes the top end.
