Hey, I just bought a 98 chevy pickup that has 235s on it, and a friend of mine offered me some 285s for pretty cheap, and i have a few questions..

number 1: Will they fit without rubbing?

number 2: how much will they affect my gas mileage?

Thanks

Not sure bout the rubbing part but my Ranger got better gas mileage when I put 33s on it.:scary:

Hmm, I also wonder how much it would affect the speedometer

Did you recalibrate your speedometer?

No, and since I didn't the gas mileage should be worse.

I have 305's on my F250 and All's I did was crank the torsion bars. I bet if you put the 285's on there you wont even notice a difference in the gas milage, I can still get 21 mpg on the hwy

It depends how you drive too. If your a hard driver you gas mileage is going to drop because of the extra mass your turning. Take it easy and you will get better mileage because your motor is going to be turning less motor RPMS at the same speed. Im running 31's on my stock ranger and I get horrible mileage, but I drive it pretty hard and offroad it frequently.

exactly it's all how you drive

If you have rubbing problems you could always crank on the torsion bars to gain the extra clearence

i think the general rule is that the bigger the tires the worse milage.

But there are my factors...
gear ratio
engine ex. 6cyl or v8
ACTUAL tire size. most 33in tires are usually 32in and some change
tire weight
is it stop and go or highway driving?

and the list can keep goin

you should be alright if your in a Z71 and stock wheels. a two wheel drive might rub when turning. if you have an aftermarket wheel that sticks out its prob. going to rub. gas mileage shouldnt be much different if any, assuming you drive the same.

if they are 285/75-16's you'll be fine on a 4wd truck no rubbing at all, 2wd will rub

since your's is a z71 it wont scrub with 285's... unless you bottom out enough, the fronts will scrub if you bottom it out enough.

happens in my friends 2000 z71.. never scrubs, until he hits a bad enough dip.

Ive got 285's on my HD, and it didnt even change the gas milage... Now I have 4:10 gears, so I could throw a set of 36's on and not notice a difference in anything... No matter what I do to my truck, If I drive it right it gets 12.5 mpg...
