sounds right for a older truck with any motor

my bronco had a small block and it would only give me 6 mpg.

so i figured if i was going to get bad gas mileage ill build a 460......well i now have a 425 hp big block that gives me 10-11 mpg.

now in 20 years im sure it will back to 6-7 mpg

are you serious? Im loving these gas prices, 1.89 per gallon! When was the last time you filled up, july? Anyways, the 460 will get a little better gas mileage with a tune up and driving it lightly. If you have a lead foot dont plan on getting and better than 8mpg

I wasn't saying that something is wrong, and I have no idea what size the tires are. But I am thinking about buying it and I will try those things you said above, thanks.

My friend has the same exact truck and gets 10 or a little less. He's actually wanting to get a different truck because of the gas mileage.

Well, actually, I only really want the truck for the power...what kind of power is this truck making? And how fast is it...I mean like acceleration, does the 460 get this big truck to move that fast? Would an S-10 with a 4.3 be faster?

My friend has the 460 F-250, and I have a 4.3 S-10.

My s-10 might be more quicker than the 460, but the torque on it is amazing. If you're wanting it for power, then it'd be a good truck to get. And about the acceleration, it doesn't do too shabby but nothing like the 4.3.

ok thanks...i think i need the quickness and gas mileage over power though, I'm not towing anything, so an s-10 would do good.

haha...I can only hope I don't wreck. I'm not a real stupid person, I don't do a whole lot of dangerous things on my fourwheeler, hopefully it helps driving too:)

Drive defensively. You could be driving perfect, but it only takes one other person's mistake to involve you in a wreck.

True. I think I'm more worried about getting stranded out somewhere by myself because I was messing around in deep mud...and I don't think that a truck will push out as easy as a fourwheeler.

My uncle has a 460 in his old F250 and that is an ox! It doesn't matter what hes pulling.... uphill, into the wind doesn't matter it just pulls. He always jokes that it'll pass everything but a gas station....lol

Does anyone know what kind of MPG a Ram 3500 with a V10 will get? Someone said they had one.

We have a EFI 460 with overdrive in are 93 27ft C class motorhome and get 13mpg on the highway with are big quad trailer on the back. On all of the big hills it pulls along just as good as are buddie's with deisels. You will hardly ever see a 460 blow up you can rev the **** outa them. They are reliable as hell and is even a good motor to use in racing. My dad's friends has a mustang drag car with a built 460 that run's 9 second quarter mile time's on all motor.

ya that 460 is a real good engine... great for power too heavy for any muddin tho unless you get like 38-42's and put a big lift on it and it'd be good ... get like a dakota with the v8 4x4 package good truck and their kinda cheap and get about 16ish or you could go with the 318 1500 ram's a buddy has on with 35's and a 3 inch body lift we've only got it stuck once in 2x4 cuz he burnt up his transfer case pullin a jeep out s-10s..... kinda suck in the mudd with my experince's

that dodge ram with the v10 is not gonna get over 10mpg... dodge is known for bad gas mileage anyways and the v10 i dunno what size that engine it is... is it dually? or what deisel? probably if so it'll get better cuz deisel works a little different than gas

K_Fulk
01-22-2007, 10:22 PM
Sounds about right. In high school a buddy of mine had a 460 in a dually. After a couple hours of cruising the tank was empty. With a 20 gallon tank. We couldn't afford it when gas was 1.20 a gallon.

I have a 91' 350 460 and I get about 7 driving somewhat fast, and 9 taking it easy. It pulls increadable, even though n the highway I never see it go below 2800RPM. My mom used to pull a steel 5 horse trailer for hours on end with it and it still runs like a champ. If you opened it up a bit I'm sure it would be pretty quick. If I only had some money:blah:

If you are going to drive anything with a big block in it, gas milage should not be a concern. Your mpg is single digits.

someone was saying about 4.3 mileage, its a heck of a motor and there are like 4-5 of them I keep a close tab on between family and friends owning them, I have had 2 and have a 99 now, I can tell you my 89 got better mileage than my 99, there is a between the different fuel injection systems mileage wise, also which hp rating you have. They seem to be erratic at best no reason or ryhmn on mileage, mine is a 99 zr2 and my dad got a 00 zr2, identical trucks other than color, he can get over 20 on the interstate, my best interstate was 18, nothing wrong with either just the way it is. Very good engine though, I love them. we can haul a good bit with the later models too, disc brakes and zr2 suspension, dad will put 2000 lbs in the back of his and it isnt down on the bump stops, I have pulled 7000-8000 lbs. fine and mine and his are automatics

Thats what its been pretty much everwhere in eastern NY too, I live in Central NY now and there are the indian reservation gas stations, the Sav-ons, they are usually 10-15 cents cheaper than the station right across the street!! They have consistently been $2.31 for the last two weeks.

I feel like a goon for thinking $2.31 is cheap! HA!

sounds about right for any older truck. My 49 flathead I-6 gets around 9, and my IH Big block gets about 7 as well, and both are 4 speeds.
