Hey guy's,

My clutch lever is realy stiff and hard to pull in. Do you guys know what could be the problem. My cable runs great and freely. Is there any more option's out there to replace the stock one that i got now..

Thanks

buy a cable luber and lube it up or buy a new cable...also if your still using your stock clutch lever,,,get a CR perch and lever instead..much better..:D

Buy a new cable. You might be surprised at how inexpensive they are straight from Honda (if I remeber correctly, they are less than $10 thru serviceHonda).

With control cables, they can feel smooth when you check them by hand, but may drag significantly under load.

Replace the cable and you'll be happy.

I wouldn't bother trying to lube it if it's feeling stiff, it's already too late. Just get a new one and if you want to lube it, do it *before* it needs it.

eldoexrider01 has a setup with a MSR raptor perch and some sort of reducer (white bros. i think), and it felt pretty close to my hydraulic clutch.

if you can afford the magura hydraulic, i strongly recommend it.

And be sure to get your eyes checked often.

It is most likely your clutch cable. Mine got very hard to pull over time. To fix it I tried one of those cable lube kits. It helped a little but it was still really stiff. Then I detatched the cable from the linkage on the trans case to check its overation. It moved very freely causing me to think it wasn't the cable causing the stiffness.

I was stumped so I asked the local honda dealer. They informed me the cables go bad on the 400ex all the time. They sold me a new OEM cable for $13.00 or so. I installed it and to my amazement, it now works like new. Try getting a new cable, it cost the same or less than the cable maintenance kit and will likely fix the problem.

Or break your right wrist, be in a full arm cast for 3 months and become left handed like I did! :D
