It looks like the box was made of thick plywood. You might wanna consider using 3/4 MDF, especially for a 15" sub like that. Just a thought .....

box is made with polished 3/4 mdf paid a good 50$ or so for enough wood for it

1 15 is more than enough ... jus buy a t1 and have someone build a custom box for your f-150 t1's sound best ported too i have a friend with 2 cvx 15's in a f-150 and another friend with 2cvx's 15's in a s-10 and another with 1 t1 15 the t1 sounds better than both of theirs ... i woulda looked at one myself but i got a good deal on this so i jumped on it those t1's are kinda pricey

Then you grabbed the wrong stuff. Those pics clearly show wood grain. MDF is basically glued sawdust and has no wood grain. Regular plywood is a bad material for speaker boxes. It tends to introduce resonante frequencies and crap. Look anywhere, all they recommend is strictly MDF only.

The good news is these subwoofers are known to make their users both deaf and sterile.

That way, they can't hear us when we laugh at them, and they can't reproduce either.

Yea your box is clearly not MDF. Also it looks to be like a huge box... You need to put some angles in the box. Any experienced box builder knows this...The more angles you have on the speaker box, the more the sound waves expand, thus making it louder. Also, I forgot what its called, but it is a packing you stuff inside the box, and it makes it seem bigger to the sound waves. Someone here should know what I'm talking about...

I know what your talking about but I have no idea what its called either, maybe polyfill? Plus theres people out there that use all different kinds of things like foam and such. I've heard alot of bad things about Audiobahn but I have two cheap *** 12" audiobahns that still handle 400W RMS a piece and they slam pretty good. Ive had them for a few years and I have no complaints. My next set of speakers will be Audiobahn aswell.

Polyfil maybe it, but I'm not sure. Audiobahn's are pretty good, I had some Flame Q's about 5-6 years ago. They were alright and I also had the audiobahn amp that had the flame on it as well. It was pretty decent, but not as loud as the Power HX2's and BD1000 I upgraded to.

this stuff is mdf i jus sanded down the whole box it makes it look like plywood and i have polyfill in the box and the sound is channeled threw a pass way i made for the port

The point that everyone is getting at is no matter how sanded down or polished or whatever your not going to get a "grain" pattern from MDF as its not solid wood it is compressed wood dust held together with glue, hence the name Medium denisity FIBER board. Unless you have like some woodgrain laminate on there you wont see a woodgrain pattern on MDF.

+1

MDF is basically glued together sawdust and WILL NOT have grain to it at all no matter what.

Why in the san he!! would you make a 40inch sub enclosure for a 15 inch sub? Maybe if you had to going that big would make sense. But you dont, nor can you unless u pry the front board that the sub sits it and replace it with a new piece. So Why a 40 inch box?

Air space
Goes by Cubic feet (cu ft)

hondajoe05
01-18-2007, 07:35 PM
alright all i know is this stuff is not ply wood ... its peices pressed together it all sounds real good the sub calls for up to 3.50 cubic ft. with a ported box this isn't evn that much with the channel in the back and its not to wide... the box sounds good i got the audiobahn cuz i got a damn good deal on it ... mtx 15's suck i woulda bought the t1 if i had the money or apline x type but im only 16 with a 180$ four-wheeler payment and i get 8 miles a gallon in my truck go figure i have money for anything high priced
i can take the front peice off and put a new peice on if i choose different subs ... small aired spaced boxes sound bad imo

That's a nice sub..................but it's only as good as your amp. Go bigger.

My Power Acoustik 1440 watt just came in and I am pumped!!! Now I just have to wait on the sub.

I know a few people have already said this but that box is WAY to big. The smaller the box the more bass that speaker will actually produce.....

Dude that's the very definition of ply wood. Ply means layer.

A few people need to do a little research. He said the box is ported. Ported boxes are huge compared to sealed boxes, which are what you guys are thinking of. I'm not going to go as far to say he built it to specs or anything, but I will give the size thing to him.
