Are shocks and a-arms something me and a buddy can install in a few hours? Pretty easy task and what not?

ya you'll be able to do it fairly easy.. you'll need a pickle fork or something to get the ball joints off though so you can take off the a arm.. if you search the forum there are a couple threads on how to do this if you don't have a pickle fork.

i have never had to use a pickle fork on any quads. hit the spindle where the ball joints go through them hard with a hammer and they will fall out.
