Blackchrome?

pappy i was wondering if you can do a black chrome im gonna redo my 450r frame maybe soon as the weather breaks and i can get some more hours in at work...i like the looks of the black chrome i was wondering if you can do it or if it can be done

I dont have any pics of it as of late, its a greyish color that IMO isnt the strongest choice for quad parts but it has done ok in the past

What makes it not strong? If you dont mind me asking. Somthing with the color? I had some car parts done that color. I could post up some pics if you want... This was before I knew about Pappy...

alot of powdercoatings strengths rely on its thickness, black chrome being a metalic type powder does not lends itself to being applied very thick. i usually add clear to it to help. while a 1 or 2 mil thick coating is at its peak strength(depending on the powder) 4 or so is where most of the frames are coated.


another reason i do not like this color is there is an inherent flaw with it. ive read online where people say its the applicators error, but after speaking with the powder manufacture, it is a property inherent to this color. it can have black spots that are uncontrolable as to where they will appear. while this is not an issue to some, it is to others and i try to avoid issues like that where I can.

pappy i know your the man to talk to about powdercoating, what i was wondering is what would look the best with my 450r with red plastics....i plan on buyin a set of 07 whites because i like the way they look but it wont be til later...i want something that stands out...i thought about white frame.....but i figure white frame would show too of everything...and black is just too blah for me...but i like black the color overall...its just too much of a popular combo...red & black are overplayed to the max....but ive never seen a blackchrome with red...

lol, i see almost all the colors and the basics still make me smile the most.

its your quad and youll need to decide what you want to do, i will spray it no worries, but the final choice is all yours:p

I see. Thanks for the reply Pappy. You are correct on the black spots, some of mine pices had them in there. It is a wicked color IMO just not suited for ATV duity I guess. Here is a pic of the color...
