Theres a tab behind the left foot peg, lower subframe tube, should find it there for 86/87 frames.

If it is not there then one of the previous owners cut it off.

if it has been sand blasted out, then your out of luck. its really common with the R frames, because of sandblasting/powdercoarting, or people will scratch out the number if its stolen.

I had that tab almost break off my frame, I think that is why they were moved to the front of the frame.

any way i can "re apply" for a title? i just need to have some kind of registration because some times i ride on the trails in the philly burbs, and if a cop comes, he asks for your registration, if u have it he tells you to pack up and leave, if you dont, he takes the bike

maybe you can use the vin number from your motor.

There is also a vin # under your headlight, on the frame right above the a-arms, where the 2 sections meet that cross piece, it is pressed into the frame. On the front of the frame, you can't miss it. That'll get you.

That is only on the 88-89 frames. His is an 87. 86-87 was on the sub frame area right above the left foot peg.

shifter side of the motor, look under the shifter, you should see a metal plate with the vin number.

The motor does not have the VIN on it, the motor has its own number. (On a plate in the location that CorvetteZ06 mentioned.) My 250R is a 86. The guy I bought the quad from had the original California title from 1986 that he gave me. The VIN plate was not on the frame anymore, but the number on the motor is listed on the title. If the quad you have still has the original motor, you may be able to get the motor number and take that to the registration place and they may be able to use the motor number to get your VIN. Not sure if that will work or not, as I have no experiance with trying to register a quad, as Nevada does not require you to, but it may be worth a shot. (The motor number and VIN appear to be tied together.)
