I have been wanting to get some pics up for everyone of various spots alot of the different frames are cracking at.

Please, no bashing, I would like the pics spread around and used so that others can see what to look for and use as reference when they have thier frame gusseted!

This is a pretty common spot on almost any frame, inside of the shock mount

Since we are on the subject about crack frames, does the 2005 YFZ have frame problems?

Right now it has to be the LTR. And that may be just because they have not been on the track long enough to show any big weaknesses.

The new Kawi has me skeert, simply because there will be few options to have it easily and properly repaired. I have my fingers crossed because I like what I have seen so far!

I heard from pretty reliable sources that Josh Creamer has already been through 5-6 frames because he keeps breaking them....so, not so good news about the new kawi....bummer.

I gotta agree pappy those are pretty tough to spot. Is there a trick to finding these or just experience and knowing where to look

i'm really second guessing the gusset purchase I asked you about a while back.

Any particular spots on the YFZ?

ehhhh, I'm not doubting you or your sources man , but i find this hard to believe! I don't want to make assumptions on a bike that hasn't been released yet, but I think Kawi did their homework on the frame. It appears to be built like a tank, but hopefully not all that heavy!

showing small cracks in pictures without a Macro lens is hard. Every picture I posted are most deffinatley cracks and I have already repaired them. Yes, expierence has shown me what to look for, I piss folks off all the time as I walk the pits and point out cracks in thier frames:ermm: And most of what I posted are with teh stock paint still on, when they return from stripping I tend to find even more!

a gusset kit is almost mandatory to slow down the rate of cracks. IT DOES NOT GARUNTEE THEY WONT STILL HAPPEN, but it does slow them down.

The yfz is pretty close to the 450R with the addition of the main frame tube roughly half way up where your boot runs the frame. (I have a few YFZ's at stripping that I will get pics of when they return)

pappy did mine have any cracks in it? i looked over it but couldn't tell for sure. i know i have had two big crashes and am bound to have some, just wanna know where to look in the future

Pappy

None that I saw Jeff. I will post up some YFZ pics as I get them.

The best advice I can give is look for rust marks. Anyplace there is a crack will usually have rust form after a wash(dont confuse stress marks for cracks, those areas tend to flex and pop the factory paint and rust begins thereafter ie. around arm mounts, footpeg area etc)

and for anyone sending thier frame to get powdercoated, 99.9% of the shops will not give a hoot about your cracks, it is YOUR responsibilty so double and triple check for them and have them repaired before you take it to your place of choice. (frames, swing arms etc)

I honestly dont remember. I inspect them before blasting, weld them up. Re inspect them after blasting and again, weld them up. Even with checking and fixing them I have had to take them off the hanging rack before because i saw one crack i didnt see before. (powder room as great lighting...lol)

and I hope the report on the new kawi proves to be wrong, i dont like seeing any one or any manufacture having issues.

yes

as far as the 300ex, its about the same as all others of its era. usually the 300's arent pushed as hard but they do have thier weak spots

Hopefully that is jsut part of the prototype testing to finalize the frame design so they can reinforce the proper areas on the production model.

shifter side, where the engine box tubes meet behind the foot peg. the subframe will also twist pretty easy, so the subframe/main frame junction needs done, as well as the triangle were the upper and lower sub frame tubes meet, and along the very back connecting the right side to the left
