Ihave a 2004 400ex that has been recently modified witha 440 big bore kit , full hmf exhaust and stage 2 hotcam. Somehow over the last weekend of riding I messed something up in the transmission. The bike skips in 2nd gear kinda like a loose chain or worn sproket.
Well I just dropped it off at the local dealer and they quoted me $800 for labor ( 9 hours ) not including parts. Does anyone know of a cheaper place or fix iin the Sacramento California area? Please advise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Max

ya do this,
three options:

1: pull the motor and split the case, not as hard as one would think, just get the manual and follow it word for word and take your time. plus this a spot to save alot money! get the gears on ebay or here on the forums, never pay the full price for the gears, i did and they are around $90 apeace and i needed like 3. i got the same gears on ebay for about $6.

2: get the gears on ebay take them with you to the dealer, and choke on the $800.

3. learn how to ride without 2nd and soon 3rd. lol j/k

2nd gear is a problem with 400ex's but it's not all that hard to replace them.

hope this helps!
