good luck. i have a full HMF and have the same problem. i just burned through my second cable. i'm thinking i might wrap it in that metal muffler tape.

You can try and safety wire it up out of the way or the way I did it was to but Heater hose from a car and wrapped it around the pipe

same here mine just broke but i already had heat tape on the cable and it stil burnt throught so im going to try heat tae on the cable and muffle wrap on the muffler and maybe it will last longer

I read that if you use a 250x cable its longer and you can run it along the frame so it isn't even close to the headers.

Tip tied mine up tight on the handle bar clamp... holds enough tension on it to keep it off the header and still allow full turning. No more troubles!

You can go get a 300ex clutch cable because it is longer and you can run it under the header or you can get some other aftermarket cable that is longer.

I used the 300EX cable it works great even with an extended stem :D

i bent the cable holder thing so it would pull it away from the header and now it doesnt touch, but i seen on another 01 400ex that there is a thin piece of metal that is bolted to the header bolt then wraps around the cable which pulls it away from the header

300ex cable works the best from what ive been through....ive roasted 2 stockers and a motion pro before i used the 300ex and its long enoug that you can run it on the frame rather than through the headers

If your too cheap for muffler tape or if you dont have any on hand and want to ride just wrap it in tinfoil lol.
