The rectifier controles your charging system. If you unhook the rectifier, it desingages the charging magnets, therefore freeing up the engine. The box your looking at disingages the magnets when the battery dosent need to be fed a charge, then when it does, it will switch back on till its full again. I have mine unhooked and just charge the battery a few times a month.

does it gain you power and can you explain it a little better? like does it cut your carging system so it doesnt charge your battery? so you have to charge it some times?

ok i c i think it is just a relay 4 the engine to feed the battery when needed i wouldnt unhook it but the rectifier would be good and all it is is taking the power that ur engine is feeding and puts it in to hp i doubt that much of a gain

Ok, let me explain this. Theres 2 magnets in your engine. one on the flywheel and one above the flywheel. When the flywheel turns, It eventualy works its way towards the stationary magnet above the flywheel. When they pass, they send out a small electrical current which is sent through the rectifier, then into the battery. But you have to think for a second. If you have 2 magnets going past each other, thats going to make a tight spot in the engine cycle(when the 2 magnets pass). well, by unplugging the rectifier, It disingages those magnets. Now you dont have that tight spot, the engines running freer. I will tell you this for all of you doubting the significance of this simple little mod, if you will take the time to reach under the LR fender, unpluge the thing and go for a ride, you WILL notice a diffrence. It added a lot of torque to mine and when I hook it back up, it feels like I'm dragging a 25 pound weight behind me. I'v put an FMF and a K&N on and unplugged the rectifier and now when I jump on my friends stocker, it feels like im riding a 90. I also run microsprints which are powered by a 600cc, 4 cylinder streetbike engine. It states in all the tracks rules that unpluging the rectifier is strictly aginst the rules. Therefore, it MUST make some kind of a diffrence.

THIS MOD WILL NOT HURT YOUR QUAD! Its perfectly safe to do whenever you want. What I do is keep it unplugged until when I go to start it theres a reasonable lag in the starting system then I plug it in, ride for a day, and unplug it again. I notice most of my power on the bottom end when I unplug mine.

i just looked at this thread and was reading it..this sounds pretty sweet..but can you do this on a 250ex where is the plug oh and at the beggining of the thread it said it was $50 so do i have to buy a "rectifier" to do the mod??

Its located inbetween the front of the LR fender and the frame. Its a little black thing with cooling fins on it. The thing for 50 dollars just electronicly does what you can physicly do by unplugging it. It monitors when the battery is full, then dissengages the magnets allowing the engine to free up. Then, when the battery runs low, it kicks the charging system back on until the battery is full and disengages again and so on and so on. you can do this yourself however. Reach under the fender and unplug the the wire running to the rectifier from the rectifier. Now, you have disengaged the 2 magnets that are used to charge the batter. When you notice a slower turn-over when you start it, reach underneath the fender again and plug it back in. One it acts normal again, unplug it. Its perfectly safe to do and I run mine unpluged all the time. I just throw a charger on it every so often.
