New handlebar tech help questions PLEASE

I just got in my new set of MSR carbon steel bars for my 2001 400ex..
they went on perfect the only thing i was wondering is the 4 bolts that clamp tha bars down to the steering stem..
how tight should they be.. I had to get them tight as SNOT in order for the bars to not move..

Are they supposed to be really tight??

When I installed my Renthal bars I used a torque wrench to snug them down, just to make sure all four bolts were tightened equally. Not sure what torque value I used, but it was around 15-20 foot pounds. You shouldn't have to tighten them down super hard though, and it sounds as though you don't have enough of a gap between the clamps. Check to make sure there is a slight gap between the clamps on both sides...you might have to file/grind some of the material off...and then tighten them down normally.
