My stroker has no problem w/stock and lightly modded 450's, DS650, or Craptors. Have yet to race a 700 though, I'll found out in March the results of that one.

A good rider! I have out ridden several raptors on a bone stock ex on both the mx track and trails...but your gonna get destroyed on the top end no matter how you look at it, so i would just shy away from drags and straights. But anything technical you'll have the advantage.

My friends Raptor 700 just romps in the straight drags. Hell, the displacement is almost twice the 400. I can hang with him halfway thru a 200 yard drag then he is gone. If I get the holeshot, he passes me halfway thru the race. So, its that top end power that gets it.
...I haven't rode any cammed big bore 400's, but I expect that is what you need to keep up.

You will need to get that 460cc big bore kit I seen in an atv sport magazine. Port & Polish,Cam,Big Bore kit, good aftermarket pipe and gear it up alil bit if you wanna beat a raptor on topend.

Let's face it, the 660 rappy with just a pipe/open airbox and rejetted is going to have better than 45 hp. Very few 400ex based builds ever reach that high, so you're going to have to spend a lot of cash to beat the Raptor in a drag race.

If you're that interested in going fast, you might as well switch to another quad entirely. A mild modded 450 will spank the 660 and hang right with the piped 700's. You'd spend just as much on that 400 to get close to the same performance, but you'd lose a lot of that money when you sell it.

If you do mod it, get it on a dyno and see what it does, then post it here....

I forgot to mention that I always get 2-5 quad lengths head start when I race the Raptor 700.:D

45hp??? Thats a big number for only getting a pipe/jetting/open air box. Where did you get that number from? I thought Raptor 660's only had around 35-37 hp from the factory. I couldn't imagine a pipe/open air box/ jetting making a 8-10hp difference.

he is right though. i saw dyno #'s....and not from a site advertising their pipes.

i said what i said based on him going against a stock raptor. (i.e. a cam and pipe is good enough)

Just like the 450's and the 700, the 660 was choked up stock. I am being conservative with the 45 hp too. Go to CTracing.com, they claim 50 hp out of their pipe/jetting/open airbox kit. I don't see too many disputing Alan's claims either. His pipes make a lot of power. Personally, my old 660 would run right with my two friends FMF piped Banshee up Olds hill. It seems common knowledge that if you stick FMF pipes or T-5's on a Banshee, that they are in excess of 45 hp. Look at the post MobileDyno did in the dyno section of the FMF SST pipes. 50 hp.

There is also a 700 that was tested with and without NOS. It ran 48.8 with just the GYTR pipe and airbox lid + EFI controller. Why would it be so hard to believe that the 660 could make 45 with just a pipe and airbox/jetting?

Even so, go find a 400ex motor that's over 40 hp....

Stock, they run about 30. 31-32 with a pipe. (see dyno section)

There's a lot of 400 based runs. Find one that has less than 2 grand in mods that will get close to 45 hp.... Have fun...

Amen to that....you wouldn't even want to know what I've got in my poor ole 400ex.....and I regularly get smoked by the new 450s. If only they would have came out with the 450R in the late 90's, I would be alot faster for less money. Some of my aquaintances have 450s that put out a dyno proven 50 plus HP with no bore and no stroke. How are we supposed to keep up with that?

Now that was funny.Like they said a little skill will help 400s and 440s will spank them in the bottom end they just get u top end. 440 Cylinder, Wiseco 11:1 piston and stage 2 hotcams would help alot. GOOD LUCK!

no ofense or anything..just wanna help you out cuz your new.

it would save alot of time if you just put your quad with the mods in your sig. it would be much much easier, and it would save room when ppl quote you. just go to the top of the web page, and click "user cp" then click "edit options", and everything else is self explanatory

rider, my buddy rode a old 91 crappy 250x and what keepin front of a guy that has rode for many reays and his son that spanks 450r's on there 440's and he walked all over them in the oma tracks, its all in the rider, im startin to be able to keep with my buddy on my blaster, im gonna get a 400 and get ****ty shocks or stick with my blaster w/crapy shocks and then im gonna hop on a race ready 450 or 426 or something like that and i'll beable to fly, thats what everyone has said around me, becasue at everyrace theres that one guy that his mom and dad get paid alittle too much and he gets a pimped out yfz or a 450r or something and he couldnt ride it to save his life,

400 has weight advantage over the 660. cam/high comp piston/pipe/no lid/jet
and learn to ride and you can make it close in 250-300'

the 700 rappy will prob. still be in font
