I just got a UNI filter for my 300EX. When I install it do I need to put that round metal screen thing from the stock filter inside it or not??? I need to know soon.:confused:

Yes you will if it is the same as the 400ex set up. If you try to run without the cage on the inside you will not be able to fit the filter correctly and it will fall off, possibly resulting in engine damage. A good test is when you fit it, it should be tight enough so you can not pull it off with your hand

I've always heard that the metal thing restricts airflow alot, and that when you get an aftermarket filter you no longer need it... But it fits inside my UNI filter.:confused: I still don't know what to do!!!!:( PLEASE HELP!!!!!! :(

The uni filter for my 400 ex came with its own metal interior support. Lookes like a chicken wire cylinder. This is used as the support, not the OEM screen. Keep that with the OEM filter.
