Is it worth it to buy a kickstarter besides saving weight, does it help performance wise

If you remove the elec start it helps in performance by letting it wind out faster. You can remove about 15lbs too if you make it kick only. I would stay elec start cause yz motors are hard to start.

If you buy the kick start components, I've also seen people use the 1998 YZ250 kick lever instead of the GYTR lever sold for the YFZ. If I were to do a conversion, I'd use the YZ lever just because I saw one GYTR snap in half. I've never seen any kick lever break like that until now.

450's kick over easy

The 426 and 400's didn't have the decompression on the cam.

I believe this is one area where perception differs from reality. You seem to hear the statement "starts on 1st kick" pretty often. I still don't think I've even seen it happen once.

Four-strokes just don't start as willingly as two-strokes and watching guys kick start thier ATVs holds the proof.

I was referring to them kicking over not starting. Unless you weigh next to nothing.

The only time I had any trouble with getting mine started it was below freezing and spent a couple hours in the back of my truck. But the e starts I have owned usually had the same problem in that situation.
