Free mods?? How about some free utility bills, stocks or maybe real estate. :)

I think he's talking more along the lines of do-it-yourself mods, and upgrades for parts being replaced anyway.

Removing the throttle limiter on the carbs is a popular cheap/free mod.

Doing some mild porting of the cylinder.

If he has to replace the piston anyway.. he could increase compression some, or get a lighter piston?

Those types of things. ;)

He may want to remake this post in the Banshee forums. More likley to get appropriate input.. rather than getting suggestions from people like me that own a 300ex.. lol.

not free.. but most important get a pro design or similar air intake kit to eliminate the stock crappy airbox that sucks sand and dirt in.

For free I get the head milled to bump the compression up. You may have to run higher octane to compensate. Get some cheap pipes from ebay I bought some scrappy fmf's for 100 bucks and they were a great investment.

Why sacrifice your cylinders, when you can just get high compression pistons? ;)

How is milling your head sacrificing you cylinder? You are just shaving the head?

Sorry, I meant the head. Yet, still, why would you do that when you can just buy high compression pistons? If you ever wanted to go back to stock, your head would be junk.

it has fmf fattys and k@n. I am going to tear into the carbs is there a way to tell if it has already been jetted?

Do you need to rejet often/ or is once enough?

I'd mill the head becuse they are 10 bucks on ebay if I ever wanted to go back. He did want cheap mods pistons and gaskets are a couple hundred bucks. As for the jets stock jets range from 190 to 210. I think when I had fmf's and stock filter I put 240 or 250 jets in it. With the kn also you may want to go higher to 260 or 270. You will need to re jet anytime you modify the intake or exhaust. Some people re jet when it get colder or hotter but that is extreme to me unless you run in some really cold weather. You may also want to check www.bansheehq.com
I was on this site all the time when I had my banshee.

you can go bigger carbs not that cheap and a coolhead you can change dome size. To get different compression ratio''s. You can pick one up kinda of cheap.

Of course changing gear ratio's is pretty cheap. (sprockets)

Best investement is getting a descent portjob done.

You can get a heck of alot of power out of a 2 stroke this way.

I see your point, yet if you don't have a good set of pistons to start with why look for performance. And where would you get your head milled for free?

If you have a buddy that has a machine shop you can get it done free I guess. But I have heard you can lay sandpaper on a flat surface and do it that way. I would not recommend it but I'm sure it would work. Get rid of any of the TORS stuff toomey sells the parts to get rid of them.

Free stuff hmmmm

I would suggest polishing you ports. Easy to do and really makes the shee run smooth
