Is he nuts? 20-25 hours.... maybe if the quad was NEVER maintained and raced really hard at or near the rev limiter!!!

If I were you I would find another builder. If he think his build quality only lasts 20-25 hours, then maybe you should not give him you hard earned $$$.

Remember we are talking about the mighty 400EX, perhaps the most reliable quad built.

That's my $.02

Whew, I guess I'll get off the soap box now

Good Luck

my 426 has been together for over 3 years. i tore it apart to rebuild it this past fall. once i checked everything it was al well within spec, so i put ina new piston and let it be. over the summer i put 20-25 hours a month on mine atleast, sometimes i do that in a weekend of hard riding so you shoudl easily get much more than that out of your quad.

As everyone else says. There would be no point in doing this rebuild if it only lasted 20-25 hours. Unless you were a pro and had engines coming in for free.

With proper maintenance and a good oil it will last way longer than that

Is that a mistake? Are you missing a 0 at the end of that 25?

??

I don't think you understood what I said? I'm saying 25 hours is absolutely NO TIME for a motor... stock 400's 25 hours is hardly broken in...

If you still don't understand let me know

Yeah, I agree. I was refering to the original post. My mistake though, I should have quoted it.

no problem.

I was going to say... 25 hours that would suck

Yeah, what would be the point? Having to send your motor out every 25 hours of riding time for a re-build... Too rich for my blood.

Even with no up keep on the quad it should run longer than 25 hours. My buddies and I ride more hours than that in a single weekend during the summer.
