What rides better? Anyone ridden both, the 400EX/450R conversion, and different aftermarket brands of front shocks? What is better? Thanks for the input. :D

400ex shocks aren't really a huge improvement over the stock 300ex shocks. The 450r shocks can be made to work as well as the aftermarket shocks when properly valved/sprung but I have not tried them. I have tried both works and elkas on my 300 and the works were 100% better than stock but I prefer the elkas mainly because they are built with higher quality materials. You really can't go wrong with works/elkas or the 450r shocks if they are properly set up for the 300 and your riding style. If you are on a budget then the 450r shocks might be the best way to go but if money is no object then go for the elkas. The 400ex shocks aren't that much different than the stock 300 shocks except more travel. Either way you go you will notice a HUGE improvement over stock.

Thank you, I appreciate the input. Anyone else want to comment?

I'm leaning toward to 450R shocks.. front and rear maybe.

i dont think the 450 shock will fit on the rear, for the rear go with a 2001 raptor 660 shock, thats what i run and its a huge improvement, only the 2001 fits so watch what you buy.

Okay thanks, I could always use a shock cover, if it really bugged me. :D

450r shocks will not fit Long travel a-arms, and shock adaptors made for 400ex shocks due to them being a quarter inch longer.

Thanks, but I'm not looking for long travel A-arms.

Has anyone tried the conversion w/ aftermarket 400EX/450R shocks (works, Elka etc..)

yea its been done, aftermarket fits just like stock, it just performs better than stock, but aftermarket will still fit fine with the adaptor

Thanks, but I know it would fit. I was wondering how well it rides.

The difference is night and day. Any afterarket shock is a huge improvement over stock. With 400ex length aftermarket shocks you gain tons of travel and it is 10X smoother than stock. Just make sure you get them valved correctly for the setup and you should be very happy. You don't want to just get any 400ex aftermarket shock unless they are set up properly because of the upright position of the shock.
