Seems to be difficult when the engine is running but when off I can find neutral easily.

I'm a noob also and completely agree neutral is hard to find. However, I think it's easier to find neutral when it's turned off.

try giving it a little gas while putting it in neutral

Yepp what he said. I can hardly ever get mine into nutral so i just rev it up a tad and it slips right in.

when it becomes hard to get it in neutral w/ the motor running that means you need to adjust your clutch cable. then it will be easy to find again.

Yep. That's usually the problem. Just adjust the freeplay at the clutch lever and it should fix it. Mine does the same thing about every 6 mos. and I adjust the cable and it fixes it right up.

Adjusting the cable helped on both my 250r and 416ex. The question I have is why. Is this because the clutch is wearing? Is it because the clutch cable has stretched some? A combination of both? Not to hijack this thread but these seemed like questions relevant to the topic. Thanks.

both cables dont last forever i was just giving you a simple my to fix it i know its lazy. i got good at hitting neutral from second. and the heat coming off your head pipe does not help with the life span of the cable.

Sometimes, and I mean SOMETIMES, not haveing enough oil in your bike makes it difficult to get into neutral. Don't ask me how but two of my friends and myself have experienced this phenominon. I simply rode over to my garage, checked the oil (3/4 qt low:eek: ), filled it up, and it was instantly fixed.

Yesterday I adjusted the clutch cable slack according to the service manual. After taking it for a test ride, it seems neutral is now easier to find. :)
