Not quite, depends on what your running. I still don't think a full exhaust will get you 9hp, im sure a full exhaust, filter, remove lid, rejet, and cherry bomb(on ltr) will give you about 9+HP.

You should see how fast my quad can go sitting on top of the corvett!

No dont run. Only ran 5 times since last spring. Its getting brought to the dealer to fix it tomarow. The stupid thing broke the basket when i was kicking it over so i had to put a hinson in it. I got bead locks now and other stuff. Im thinking of either buying a lil quad or dirt bike or else ill stick a nother $500 into my quad with in a week. So if i do then that meens since that pic was took it will have a nother $1000 on it since teh pic was took.

No way. I catch 15ft of air out on my track which i havent hit since fall of 05. After that snow came i couldnt hit jumps no more cause of lack of traction then i started ripping the quad apart and selling parts off it and its nearly ready now. i just wanted to come on here and point something out. i don't know this kid, and i don't want to help him out if he is nothin but trouble, but all of you who make fun of him for saying that his yz426 hybrid has the power to weight ratio of a corvette should do some math.

and for those of you who can't do it i've done it for you:

corvette: 500hp, 3130lbs = .159hp/lb

yz426 with pipe: 58hp, 350lbs = .166hp/lb

the math here shows that a yz426 motor with a pipe, airfilter, and jetting actually has a better power to weight ratio than a 2006 corvette.

my point is that if you are going to make fun of people, do the math before making statements which are completely wrong, making this kid seem intelligent.

First off, until I see a dyno sheet, I will assume that a yz426 with a pipe and filter does NOT make 58 rwhp. (Could be, but as of yet I have not seen one do that)

Second, it's where the power is.....even though the numbers support his theory that his power to weight ratio is greater than that of a Vette, he also stated that he had the capability to beat one in a race until being topped out.

I don't think those numbers can make any of us think that a 2006 corvette would lose in a drag race to a chopped up 400ex with a yz426 motor in it.....it's all about putting every bit of that power to the ground....I'll stick with the car as my choice since it has been designed and engineered to do just that.

58 hp for a yfz426 is pretty funny.... Also the quad is more than 350 lbs. A stock 400ex is 375 dry...

The ex motor to yz motor weight is a huge differance probably 30lbs cause the 400ex uses a big heavy air cooled motor.
Put smaller lighter tires on it. A way lighter motor on and its easly 350lbs if that. Not to mention a 135lb kid.

ricky charmicheals CRF was only making 60, and that thing had all the unobtainable works parts...no way a 426 will make 58

A yz426 can make 58 hp with motor work.

A stock yz426 has 47hp. With an exhaust it makes 49-50 hp. Open up the air box and swop out the filter and probably making about 52 hp easly.

Nope.. basic physics would tell you otherwise.

With extra weight at the outer part of the rotation you require more centripital force to oppose the cenrifugal force to keep the mass rotating which requires additional force to be input to keep the mass rotating. Nearly all of this required force is taken from the force output of the motor thus reducing horsepower. The faster the tire turns, the higher the force requirement there is to keep the tire spinning at that rate.

Well ok so 400ex 375lbs
450's 350lbs

400ex looses 30 lbs with the yamaha motor + battory 5 lbs.

So were at then
340lbs for the 400ex and 350 for most the 450's. Turn them into racers and they weigh about the same ex posably coming out lighter. Tim fars crf hybrid was only 365lbs with fluids toped off.

The yz motors are lighter than the yfz450 quad motors also.

No.
It will reduce acceleration though. (which also affects top speed)

RWHP is measured at the rear wheels. That force is then applied in the rearward direction and the equal but opposite reaction propells the atv in the forward direction.

That force applies an acceleration on the atv. Acceleration will continue until opposing forces = the force input. (mechanical drag, wind resistance etc).

using the classic formula {f = m * a} you can move it around to be {a = f/m}

Applying the same force.. if you change the Mass (m) the acceleration will be changed. Higher mass = lower acceleration. Lower mass = Higher acceleration.

here's the real info.

yz426 stock HP is anywhere between 47-49 on the dyno.

a pipe and filter with correct jetting on a 426 will add approximately 8 to 9 hp, not 3 like the guy previously said.

so last i checked that would be around 55 to 58 hp, at the rear wheels if it was the dirtbike, not the atv, but with the motor in the atv frame, it is only going to loose about 3 hp at the rear wheels. so lets say that its now at 55hp.

now, 55hp to 350lbs is still .157hp/lb which is only .002 less than the corvette, so in terms of power to weight ratio i would consider them about even.

if you don't think that a yz426 hybrid weighs 350lbs, than you are mistaken. the yz426 motor is significantly lower in weight than the 400ex motor. the yz426 also lacks electric start, and battery. tha yz426 only takes about 1 quart of oil in the tank, so thats not going to add much weight at all. the gas in the tank is only going to add a few lbs, and the coolant will add a pound or 2.

i myself own a hybrid, which has many more aftermarket parts adding more weight to it, so i'm giving him a few pounds off the weight of my hybrid. my hybrid also has extensive motor work, putting out around 65hp to the rear wheels, so my hybrid would have something like .182hp/lb, which is .023hp/lb greater than that of a corvette, which, in terms of the weight of the corvette, would be 71.99hp. so, the corvette would need that much more hp to equal the power to weight ratio of my yz426 hybrid.


what more proof do you guys want. all you need to do is some simple math calculations to figure this all out. there is simply no way to say that this is wrong. math and science always wins out, maybe thats why i am in college majoring in biochem, and also doing mechanical engineering on the side.

there is no way in hell that a 426 will get a 8-9 HP gain with just a pipe. the pipe on a stock 426 is so free flowing that u will not get much more out of an aftermarket pipe...a stock yz450f will not get 8-9 hp out of a pipe, and there is no way that a 426 will blow it out of the water that badly with just a pipe...not gonna happen. my friend has a decked 450R...full sparks motor, a cam that is unobtainable anymore, anda 14:1 comp head, and he is only pushing about 56 without porting.

im calling BS on u...there is no way that a 426 with a pipe will beat this 450R that i am talking about either....it will beat a banshee that is bored to a 420 if it wants to....u need to get your facts straight b4 u start talking techno babble....

That's power to weight ratio is without a rider. In the real world you need a rider/driver.

Lets say you are correct and a yzf426 nearly stock motor in a 400ex chassis will put out 55hp and the quad weighs 350lbs.

With a 150lb rider/driver thats:

426 hybrid = 350lbs+150lbs w/ 55hp = 0.1100hp/lb

A 2007 Z06 weighs 3132lbs+150lbs lbs w/ 505hp. = 0.1539 hp/lb

or 39% less hp/lb.

But, I still beleive there's no way a bone stock 426 w/ pipe/filter will pull 55+ rwhp SAE on a loaded dyno. If so that would be awsome, but I'm highly skeptical.

I saw dynos. Stock 47hp. With pipe it gains around 2 hp. Change the header it just moves the power around. The yz motors are built for racing so they dont cork up the exhaust.
