im thinking of grinding out the welds in my headpipe. i just wondered a couple of things. is it easy to get to the welds and do you have to buy new seals when you take off your head pipe. i herd someone on here say that you had to buy new seals when you take off your head pipe. and do you have to rejett when u do this
thanks

It's a piece of cake to do. The welds are easily accessible, no more than 3/8" from the opening in the pipe. No "seals" needed on mine. It is a pretty minor modification and shouldn't really make a difference on the jetting.

idealy if you have extra money to throw around, new gaskets. just preventive maitnence. replace them while it off rather than take them off. big job i know but, beats having a leak on a long ride

if ur bike is pretty new they should hold. i got my bike in may 02 and have taken the head pipe off like 3 or 4 times and still no leaks (knock on wood)

they shouldnt be that expensive anyway. but if there are no tears in them--G2G.

The exh gaskets are like 4 or 6 bucks so its not worth using the old ones, but you should be ok if its the first time off.

when you remove your headpipe and "grind out the welds" you are creating a smoother path for the exhaust, correct? do you see a noticable increase in power? Does it jepordize the streight of the head \pipe?

thanks

Mine had quite a bit of weld in them. Seat of the pants you won't notice any difference by just doing that. Several little things like, removing the weld, removing the choke, and adjusting the throtle cable are noticable if done all at once.

REMOVING THE CHOKE IN MICHIGAN IS IMPOSSIBLE, TRY STARTING YOUR QUAD WHEN ITS 35 DEGREES F OUT, AND NO CHOKE, SORRY WON'T WORK.

Hey 400exInMI,
I have removed my choke and live in IL I have had mine started and running fine in 10 to 20 degree weather. Just make sure if you remove it to install a 42 or higher pilot to make up for the loss of the choke. Just pump the throttle 7 to 10 times and it will fire up better than with the choke. Just thought I would send you my results.
Thanks Zingnut

Try starting your quad in 10 degree weather with an aftermarket cdi.

I have an fmf powerbamb header, does anyone know if the welds are large enough to grind with that header? When adjusting the throtle cable you make it as tight as possible?

Thanks

Im not positive but your aftermarket header shouldn't have welds in it. Don't adjust your throttle cable to tight or it will give you less than full throttle.
