Hey man finally checked out your sig thead. Dayum shouldah looked sooner. I like pretty much everything you've done. Good choice with the blue and the skid plate is my way of think'in :) In fact our hybrids have alot in common, mainly a budget and always waiting on parts!
keep it up...PB

Thanks man. That means a lot coming from somebody with a beast like that. Right now I'm waiting a car to get back from the frame rack so I can get some funds for it. It's killing me too, since it's riding season. I'm stuck riding the slow 300 Fourtrax for now.

The only progress as of now is I figured up the displacement. The stock is 246 cm3. With the 69mm piston, I calculated it at 260.9 cm3. This is my first two stroke, so I'm hoping that extra 15 cm3 will warm it up a bit.

Nothing new guys. Insurance should be cutting a check for a Jeep in the shop next week. I'm hoping to have enough set aside to pretty much finish buying parts.

your going to have to flip the reed cage around because the carb will not perform at all if its angled up like that. it will flood out real quick and the motor wont run right. other than that the hybrid looks to bee sick and i cant wait to see it done.

Thanks. I haven't gotten anymore parts yet. They decided to go with a cash settlement instead for that Jeep. So an insurance adjuster has to come out and then they'll cut me a check instead of insurance. Drags the payment process out a bit, but oh well.

I like your ideas. The guys without all the money become the inovators sometimes. I have a couple of questions for you. One what did it take to fit the stock 450R swingarm in your frame? Two is it longer? Is the stock 450R axel wider than the 300?
And a little more technical for you, what about the linkage? Are you planing on welding tabs to your frame for it? I am just wondering because this seems like a good swap and could be very nice to have a 300ex frame with linkage for a longer rear shock,or at least more travel.

you will need to mount tabs for the linkage..

Project300EX
04-15-2007, 07:45 PM
Yeah. Like 2muchquad said, you have to make tabs for the linkage. I'll probably do like tarheel did and make it bolt on.

And it's wider and longer.

please post some pics of the linkage when you get it figured out I would love to see it when its done.

Sorry I haven't updated in forever guys. I haven't had time to think lately, much less work on this. I hate to say it, but I think the projects over. I'm about to start a new job and just don't have the time to work on it anymore. Not to mention I'll probably be moving next year and I'm trying to save money for a bike to save gas. Sorry I couldn't have finished it for you guys. If anybody here wants to take on this project I'll sell everything I have for it for $1200 picked up. That's right at what I have in parts in it. Not counting paint, welding wire, fabrication, and labor that I've put in. Other wise I'll probably part it out.

I wish I could say I was kidding. It kills me too after all this work, but I'd hate to more work and labor into it to let it set next year. I'd rather somebody else enjoy it.

got to page 5 then just skipped to here. man that sucks, anyways Im doing that sort of thing but 300 frame, 250x/300ex engine, 400 ex rear suspension. but I just got a set of 450r a arms for 40 shipped, am hoping theyll fit. wasnty sure but with how much of these parts go bike to bike I figured theres a good chance, thing is I have the spindles/hubs/rotors,calipers,tie-rods off a 400, and i was told 450 tie rods wer longer than 400's but in pics the 450r spindle looks like the arm is way shorter where the tie rod end mounts so it would need a longer tie rod, and hopefully the BJ's work in the 400 spindles. did you ever fab a mount for the rear linkage? was gonna do 400 swinger with 01 660r shock w/o linkage but those shocks are expensive even used, 400 ex rears are cheap, so I thought I might use a link setup and get a 400 rear.

later on im taking the 300 out and putting in a yz498 into it out of my buddies bike. or buy the bike and ride it and then get a cr500 to drop in, either way a big 2 stroke is what im after eventually. Im getting pretty close to assembly so im gettin excited, Im gonna have to go look through all 22 pages sometime.

anyways thanks for the inspiration..lol

you should just keep it and finish it, it isnt gonna make you alot of money when you sell it, it doesnt take up much room and you know your gonna want a project again later on.
