Hey there,
I just recently bought a 1988 honda trx 250r out of California and I live in Wisconsin. The question I have is, The guy I bought it from said he always ran race gas in his. I continue to do so but i was wondering if there was any way i could run pump gas. I tried 93 one time and it just wasn't nearly as close to what's it's like with 114. As far as I know the motor is stock the only aftermarket parts is the pipe and silencer.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Check your compression. If it is close to or over 200 then, yes you need race gas.

I wouldn't run the bike until you check the compression...might detonate and burn a hole through your piston...then its rebuild time :D

what will blow it up 93 or 114. I've had it since September and ran about 10 gallons of 114 and AMS oil at 40:1 ratio. I've heard that these were known for weak sparks, could that be the reason it doesn't run well on 93(Only ran about half a tank of it, does not perform like 114)?

114 will always perform better... NO IT WILL NOT HURT RUNNING 114, it could just mess it up with 93 from detonation. Run 114 till you check your compression and if it's under 180-185 then you're fine to run 93. That's just me though, I wouldnt push it running 93 with like 185psi.

i used to mix high octane race gas and 93 octane gas together for a while, i dont think its bad for it, but double check to be sure if you can mix leaded and unleaded. it was just my way of making my race fuel last longer and keep some money in my wallet. Corey
