does any body know if you can replace the stock bolt with a regular bolt or a stainless bolt i found one that was a couple thousands bigger in diameter

I wouldn't suggest it, even a couple thousands bigger could give you problems since that is a problem area. Go with a stock one, or a moly coated one.
