Polishing is too time consuming. just do your stator cover, clutch and brake levers, and a few other parts. if u want it to look nice i recommend that u sand blast it and leave it at that. if u polish it, it will just need repolishing all the time.

If you have the right equipment then polishing is easy. I just do it when i'm bored.

yeah,,,,,i repolish mine once every couple of months:rolleyes:

It just depends on where you live.....and how clean you keep your quad and the type of polish you use. The stuff i use will bead the water off and if you dry the part after washing it will not spot and takes a long time to tarnish to where it needs polishing again. Besides you can always clear coat everything with clear powdercoat....like on these calipers....kenny also uses this same clear.

hey for a clearcoat could you use a crystal clear acrylic coating. it comes in like a spray paint can. i have some of it in my basement and was thinking of trying it on my polishing job.

does the clear coat stick good to the polished metals and does it fade the polished look. sounds like a good idea.

u can take your parts to a wire wheel then u get mothers polish and rub the part for hours trying to get it as smooth as possible. i did my stator cover and it wasnt fun...but it does look cool.

don't use a wire wheel. just buy some paint remover to get rid of the paint. Then i use a buffer that hooks onto my bench grinder. While it is spinning apply some tripoli compound and after you buffed it go over it with some mothers.

we never used a buffing wheel, you basicly need to strip the paint down and start sanding it to 600 grit I think and then get some mothers polish and rub out the carbon. I use aircraft stripper to get rid of the paint. Chis i'm also woundering if I can just some some of that spray on clear coat for when i'm polishing. I gotta repolish about once a month.

I think mothers is more for re-polishing things. I uses two diffrent polishing compounds when polishing new parts that never been polished.
