I just picked up an 89 the headlights were out so I replaced one bulb and started it up. lit right up but when i gassed it the blub blew. any ideas on what i should look at

Sounds like a short somewere.

Maybe the wiring is wrong?

Maybe the bulb wasn;t in correctly and giggled causing it to blow?

your voltage rectifier is either unhooked or it is bad. it is the little silver box back by the CDI under the subframe. There should be a blue wire connected to this box and if it is then the voltage rectifier is probably bad.

Thats what was up with my blaster. Thats a pretty common problem, they are a peice of $hit. I wish they made a better aftermarket one. With the blasters you can get a banshee one which is better b/c they are a little more heavy duty(persay).
