well I am wanting more power and think I will be better off getting a 450 instead of putting alot of money into my 400.
I have a 04 kfx400 and it has just over a 100 hrs on it. I have pro armor nerfs and a hmf slip on what can I sell this for. My friend just picked up an 05 450r with 50hrs for $3500. still has the numbers on the tires from the dealer
I also would like to know what I can pick a 450r or yfz up for. thanks for any feed back.

Prally get $3200 outta the KFX. All I can say is ride both. I am a Yamaha fan but I really like how the honda handles.

carefull buying a used 450. not many people buy them and dont race them. Not saying that racing them is bad. A properly taken care of race quad usually sees more attention than the normal person would do.

My budie bought a yfz and the tranny was all f'ed up. He dident notice it for a while because he dident drive it a whole lot when he got it due to the fact that it was winter time. The guy he bougt it from swears he never raced it and the tranny was fine. Gues what, first race this year. We see the damn guy on a new yfz!!

Im the exact oposite of you firefighterjosh. Im a honda man, but like the way the yfz handles over the 450r.

I would say plan on droping somewhere around 4k or so.

I actually own a 04 YFZ and a 04 450R and there are pro and cons with both bikes. I was a Honda rider all my life until I rode the YFZ. My suggestion would be to ride both bikes as they both have different characteristics about them that you will like or dislike. I think something also to consider is the type of riding you will be doing when making your decision.

I have to agree with 1fst400 in regards to being "buyer beware" on the 450's. I bought my YFZ used and the motor went a month later. 4K out of pocket and I was back up and running. Talk about be pissed!!!

Good luck with the new ride, you cant go wrong with either bike!

Just do your research before buying the quad, Look around and dont jump on the first one you find. I looked around for a few weeks before buying mine, I knew how much money I could spend, which wasnt a whole lot. But I ended up getting a pretty good deal, I picked up a mint '04 for $3600. I drove almost four hours to get it, but it was worth every mile/penny!

Right when I got home...

i was in the position you are about 8 months ago. i had an 03 z400 with the typical mods and i wanted more. i got a yfz and im so much happier. softer shocks, more torque, lighter, you name it. i only lost reverse but i didnt use it that much anyhow.
my old 03 z400, sold for $3250

now heres my new yfz i got once i sold my z400, picked it up for $3850. pretty much has the same mods my 400 did. i love it so much more. even more than 3 of my friends 450rs. i like the lower center of gravity and harder hitting low end.

After selling my 250EX for $2500, I found an add online for my YFZ. If said $2500. I thought it was a scam, and it was on ATVTraderOnline.com. I bought it and it ran fine and it was great. Amazing deal.

I rode a couple yfz's an 05 and 07 and they both handled really well. Dont know about the Honda's though. Check out yfzcentral.com for some yfz's. I always would get on there as I thought I was gonna get a yfz one day but this R has me hooked!

It was probably the noobie rider and all the stress (275 lbs.) that was put on the bike. Wanna buy a 04 YFZ:devil: :blah: :macho :D

usually buying used is okay if you test it out, and ask the guy alot of questions, like if it has ever been rolled over and what not. Its only those few adds that suck

i think i would wait until the kfx came out to make my decision. i have a yfz and love the power and handling, however i thought the 450r was more comfortable. i am prolly going to buy a new quad in a couple months and i am open to all the 450s. im going to just go to the dealer and test ride all of them and then make my decision.

Can go wrong with eaither honda or Yamaha 450s. I was riding a 350 warrior and I wanted more speed and hp so I got an 06YFZ450SE. here is a updated pic of it.
