hey,
my friend has a 300 like me, and he just did a oil change...and since he did, it blows a little bit of blue smoke...if he slightly overfilled it would this extra oil come up around the rings and burn producing the blue smoke?? i know there are plenty of bad things caused by overfilling the oil but could this happen because of it?? and no it never smoke at all b4...

ok...to be exact he went from automotive 10w-30 (i know u guys dont prefer automotive due to wet clutches and piston-cylinder clearances in atvs) to honda synthetic 10w-40...maybe that should mean something to me, but im kinda new to this...can changing ur oil from regular to synthetic like that make this happen?

there are millions of topics on synthetic oil but...going from regular to syntheteic could cause that prob....its not as thick and it applies a film to the parts...id tell him to go back

by the way, the smoke only happens when he is decelerating, never when revving up, only down...

I remember when I first started reading about synthetic motor oils, that changing to synthetics on a older motor could increase oil consumption. It sounds like there may some wear in the valve guides if its smoking on decel.... which would most likely not indicate an overfill. My suggestion would be to change back to regular motor oil (espcially if the motor had some time on it) or change to a heavier synthetic. I use Mobil 1 15W50 in my 400ex and I just switched to it in my older 300ex. Haven't ridden the 300 yet so I'm not sure if I'll start seeing the same thing you are on an older motor. Good Luck.
