yea you can break them in the wrong way, and no they dont effect reliability, if i was you i would go to a 406 bore and get an 11:1 compression if i was getting the hotcam while you had it somewhat tore down.......

Will an aftermarket cam make it less reliable? Technically, yes. Any deviation from stock could possibly lessen reliability especially when that part will create more "stress" Would that be noticable, highly doubtful.

Now for your question whether it's worth it. Sure, I'd think so.

Do some homework on how to "break in" a new cam. What I did on mine, right or wrong, was started it and turned the idle screw up all the way so it ran fast for 20 minutes (or 30, I don't remember). I put a box fan underneath the front of the quad to blow cool air to help keep the engine cool. Coat the cam liberally with assembly lube as well when assembling.

When you get ready to do it, check back in. There's plenty of knowledge here to guide you to the process of installing it yourself.

maybe even a 416

no use in going any bigger than you really need to, i have ridden owned stock bore, 406, 416, 426, and 440, i highly doubt you have owned any of them beside stock bore so unless you have much experience i wouldnt recommend putting bad info out

where the power is is in the 440, but it must be installed right, its your choice though, i would just get a 406 bore 11:1 comp with a HC stg 2

and yes, anything you do to a motor can affect reliability, i was simply thinking was it worth the trade off, hell yea it is, i seriously doubt that you will notice a drop in reliability as long as you install it right.

you won't lose much reliability if any at all with the build I have in my sig I ran the snot out of it all summer and have had no problems with it at all and had huge of gains from stock.
