I'm gonna say like $500 to $800 bucks. Depends all the stuff that needs to be replaced. Do it right the first time.

Learn to do it yourself and you can do a top end (new piston, rings, bore, gaskets) for probably less than $250. It's not difficult at all, especially if you have most of the tools.

To answer the rest of your question, it's hard to say. Are you talking about going through the bottom end or just replacing the piston? My figure would be to double the cost of costs and that will get you reasonably close.

If you plan on taking it to a honda dealer, you may as well bender over now. Those clowns are gonna get you for $55 to $70 bucks an hour.Of course it takes an hour to remove the spark plug boot;) Get a manual and a 6pk of mountain dew,the manual will walk you through it,take your time.
