New 2 stroke motors?

need information for available new 2 stroke motors for
250R frames.
I prefer to use new motors (insead of used motors)for 250R
rebuilds.
If replacment motors are available for purchase who has them?

There are 85-86 ATC 250R crate motors on Ebay for $1500 from time to time. Those motors bolt right into TRX frames and have very few differences from TRX motors. They were pulled from ATCs at the shop when 3 wheelers were outlawed.

I'd stick with the 3-wheeler motor. They are exactly the same as the 86 - 87 quad motor. If you change the crank,rod, and piston to 88 - 89 model you have the 88 - 89 motor. My friend who used to race Pro would buy the ATC motors like that instead of looking for a complete quad since all he wanted was the motor.

not exactly true, 85/86 motor have a taller 5th and 6th, 87 has a long rod and shorter 5th and 6th, 88/89 has updated gears. For the most part they are the same motor. 89 had a cluth upgrade too. Some say 88/89 had stronger kicker gears.

the cases are also different. The 85-86 cases where thicker on the bottom I believe.
