Is your bike missing some oil when you change it?? curious because I change mine every 2-3 rides/4-6 hrs. and today it looked like some was missing, so I drained all the oil including a filter change..... and then refilled the 2- 1 qt containers that I just put in and it shows me over 1/2 qt low??? WTF this bike has under 50 hrs + does smoke for a second on start up, but thats it. I do ride the fug out of it, but these 400's are tanks!! Right?? Im guessin valve seals or rings going bad..Anyone else seeing the same problem??

ps - always shows full on dipstick before each ride and I do know how to check it properly

when you change the oil when you check the level dont screw the dipstick in.

also once you reach the point you want run ing for a couple mins and then check the level again

You need to run the motor at least 5 to 10 minutes to warm it up first before checking the oil level. Once it warms up you'll be right at the top of the full mark on the dipstick.

the book says its a dry sump so you should check it after it warms up

mine does the same thing, i was told that if i ride lots of wheeles (which i do) then all the oil will pour into the piston which will make it burn way more oil.

Which is correct. Our XR650 motor looked horrible when we pulled it apart for rebuild. My wifes dad does couple mile long wheelies on it though all the time
