With the cost of used machines and the would be scammers on all the big classified sites I decided to go with a new machine. After reviewing all of the brands I decided on a Yamaha Big bear 400 with the new IRS.

I ordered a Moose 60" plow, plow push tubes and mount kit Tuesday. The dealer called Wednesday to let me know it all came in. I spent a few hours this morning assembling the stuff.

The first and only snag I ran into was the mounting bracket. I ordered what the Moose salesman told me to as this is an 07 bike. Well he was off. The mounting bracket was considerably over sized and did not come close to lining up with anything. So with a few measurements in hand off I went.

This is the plate as it comes.

You can see here what I cut off. I followed the lines of the frame leaving some overhang.

With the way I mounted the mounting plate the bolts run in two directions. I felt this would add a little more strength to it, or not. The way the instructions show it mounted it utilizes the running board supports. I mounted it to the main frame rails and one of its cross members.

With the plow on (minus the winch) and some accessories I picked up yesterday.

Not very much clearance at 8 1/2".

That is a maxed out height.

So how do you like it so far? I just ordered the same model for my wife. I live in Alaska, and thought she needed something to plow the snow, etc. I can't do the plowing this winter because I'm in the Army and my unit is in Iraq. I'm just home for a couple of weeks leave right now.

I'm getting the smaller Warn plow on hers though.

We haven't had enough snow to plow yet.:( I don't ride the bike as I have a Sport Quad also. I picked this up as opposed to a shovel.

My little brother returned from his second tour of Iraq the end of last year. Be safe when you head back over and thank you.
