I was just wondering what methods are needed to prepare metal that has rust on it.

Do you just sandblast and take off as much rust as possible or do you need an acid dip?

If the rust is just surface rust, does powdercoat prevent it from decaying further?

thanks

For surface rust, abrasive blasting or sanding to remove it as well as some form of treatment such as a phosphate wash and coating.

For more substaintial rust, all the above just to level where you would feel confident youve removed all the rust etc.

Powder will not stop rust, but a Zinc primer will prevent it from affecting the coating for quite some time.
