Do I need motor work done to my 400ex (mods in sig)to get an aftermarket cam? I was thinking stage 1 for lower end gains, right?(Hill climbing and silt riding) Are they easy to install?

if you look in the powertrain section, there are some very helpful threads on cams, just search for hotcams, there was one in particular i was lookin for but couldnt find it

Depends on the cam....some aggresive cams require new hardened rocker arms, shorter guides and tighter springs. Most of the mild cams are drop in, however. Hope this helps....LATER.

You can do it yourself, quite easy really.

the hot cams website is a great resource also. I put one in my EX and was very happy. It took about 2 hours from start to finish.

i would put a new timing chain in too if the quad has some hrs on it...and u can put a stock 450 timing chain in it...its alot stronger and alot cheaper then a stock 400ex timing chain...

I just put a stage 1 in mine last weekend and it was real easy. Took me like 3 hrs but i was going kinda slow just so i wouldnt forget anything.
It gained a good bit of power on the bottom, but it also helped in the mid and a lil on top too.
I like it
