while riding ive heard a short squalling noise (sorry its hard to describe). sometimes when i let out on the clutch i hear it and i can feel it in the clutch lever. the cable is fairly new and i dont think the clutch is very old. Any ideas. thanks

a clutch will sometimes make that noise if it is hot or if the clutch is slipping. Make sure oil level is ok and adjust clutch

Also check and make sure you are using oil for a wet clutch

the oil is fine and i adjusted the clutch some more..... but the noise was coming from the carrier bearing i think. is was squealing and locked up and there is metal shavings on my skidplate. any advice on that?

how old is it, and have you had it the entire life of the quad?

The quad is a 2000 model and i got it about 4 months ago. I think the clutch was replaced a while before i got it but im not sure. The bearing was the noise that was confusing me because it was squeaking while i was moving at slow speeds.

yeah. im getting ready to tear into it to see what i need. hopefully just bearings. I'm gonna look and see if there is any way i can put a grease zerk in there.

ok. i got it apart and one bearing is destroyed the other is kinda rough. the bearing seat area on the axle and carrier both are kinda rough but probably usable. im gonna try smoothing up the surfaces and get new bearings. if that doesnt look too promising ill be looking for some new parts. i could probably make a new carrier myself, but ill wait and see.

There must be a zerk on the stocker. maybe inside the swinger. Try eBay for a new carrier if needed.

That's genius....

Someone must have put one on mine. I got one off eBay with a zerk right on the side, I like it better than my LSR that had the fitting inside the swinger.
