LT230 problem

A buddy of mine bought an old LT230 a while ago, and two weeks into owning it, it dies on him him and won't start. He let it sit for a couple weeks and then tried it again. It started up and ran for about 20 minutes, then died again. Anyone know what this could be? He was told by the previous owner that it might be a CDI problem.

my cdi blew and it would spark and fire 1 time and not do anything for a while and spark 1 time again

I just got a lt230 at an auction. It started and ran and drove fine at the sale, but when I got it home, I couldn't get it to start. When I first started working with it I checked to make sure that I had spark, and I did. Later in the day though, I tried to get it started by puttung a little gas in the cylinder, and she would't fire, so I changed the spark plug. No go, so
i checked the spark again. No spark.
The wiring harness is kinda screwed up, so it could be a short.
If anyone has any ideas I could use some help:cool:
Also, is there a way to check the stator, cdi, coil, etc.?

check your ground, located on the front of the frame on the relay.
Ill check the book too and see what it says to check the CDI.

That was the problem! Thanks a ton! I still need to adjust the carb, but it's at least running now!

my 230 would smoke a few months after a rebuild and the muffler was filled with oil.
