Has anyone tried a 16t sprocket on thier 400ex? If so, did you like it?

Wow, that would be pretty high. I havent...I guess you could run it on a highly modded engine though.

I have it on my bike. I use 16t/36-39 gearing depending on track. If you race mx and you have a some work on your bikes engine it is a great combination. If your running mostly stock stick with a 15/36-38 combo. Its the best midrange gearing combo that I have found. :p

i'm not sure if you can get one, but you can special order one for sure. Your motor might not pull it though

What is stock gearing?
I want to go smaller in the rear (I can just hear the fat jokes coming) by about 2-4 teeth for running 18" rears for mx and flat track.

I've put a 14 tooth front sprocket on with 18 inch rear tires and it ain't worth a sh*t,,,,too much bottom end,,,there pretty much isn't a 1st gear and the gears are real short,,don't know about puttin a different one on the back though,,goin smaller in the rear will give ya more top end I beleive,,keep us informed if you make the change..

I would stick with the stock I do and it does great on the MX track. I run both 8" and 9" rear's.

jabber and rico heres the answer for u my friend has a completly stock engine and stuff on his 400ex only thing is a 16 t sproket. he put all his money into looks. the sproket sucks bad. we can't pull it up into a wheelie out of 2nd gear mine i can pull it up in 4th. the quad just seems like when u punch it it sits there for a few seconds and then takes off. u can barly climb any hills wit it bc the engine dies out and boggs bad. if i were u i wouldn't buy this sproket. his is renthal. we drag him verse another stock 400ex and he got smoked out the hole but when we took them top end side by side and then punched it at like 50mph he smoked the kid. so its not a very good thing to do unless u got alot of mods. just my 2 cents.

So since changing 1 front is like 3 in the rear Just go down 1 in the rear you should be able to pick up some top speed and not kill your bottom end.

Your just a man whore.:D

I run stock gears with 22" tires and tur 'em good. I'm getting 18" rears for racin. If I stick with stock gears, I'll loose speed and will be shiftin like crazy.

This 416EX pulls a 16T with ease. No loss of bottom end. Pulls wheelies just like the 15T. Climbs sand hills with all the balls of stock gearing.

In fact, my 416 could always spank 430EX's and 250R's in dirt/sand drags, but always lost to 250R's at top speed on pavement by 5MPH....not anymore. I am certain I could hang right with Raptors and DS650's as well now. I will test that theory very soon...

I don't want this to be a "I'm faster than..." post, so to summarize: A stock 400EX could pull a 16T--but it will affect bottom end & wheelies slightly, and 4th & 5th would probably become almost useless--as the gearing would be so tall. (It would lose the umph to pull the quad) Heck, my stock 400EX with stock gearing had no sack pulling 5th all the way to the top. But a modded 400EX can pull the 16T, although going down 2 teeth on the rear would probably be better for quads with less mods than mine has...
