I have a 97 300ex and the sprocket has play in it which means I can grab it and wiggle it back and forth quite a bit. I was wondering if there is a bearing I can replace or if I just need to get a new sprocket. Thanks!

if your talking about the front sprocket, then that is normal. They will have some side to side play

No its the rear sprocket

Are the 4 bolts tight that hold it on ? check those 1st. Other than that your sprocket hub could be wore out or loose or it could be your axle bearings are wore out and need replacing

I went with a 15T in the front and like it.

Sorry, but what does this have to do with the question at hand? I would definately check to see if the bolts holding the rear sprocket on are loose.

Anybody with a brain could tell if the bolts were loose. I think your axle locknut needs to be tigtened. I had to do the samething saturday. The axle nut is on the right side of the axle. I know when you tighten the big nut you pull up on it. The lil axle nut goes the opposite way. I have to put low strength lock tite to keep mine from moving.

I don't see how these people are getting a 15 tooth front sprocket on a 300ex without problems.

I tried it and the teeth would hit the case before I could even get it in its mounting place??

yea its most likely the axle nut which is loose. I just had to tighten mine today.
