Does anybody make one that fits behind the air box, where it should be? I designed one up and got a quote from the tool shop at work, but they were way over what I wanted to pay.

Hey,

I do lots of work for a machine shop. I could have him quote it and see how much it costs. PM me if interested. I waterjet cut blanks out for machine shops, so I have a few I can get quotes from. I have a 2007 450ER that i'd like to do the same thing to.

Our shop has a laser machine, but not much forming equipment. They weren't even charging me for material (2mm stainless), just the job time. Quote was well over $200.

How do you guys plan on cutting the OEM battery box off of the subframe? I am in the same predicament as I no longer have a E-start

I'm just going to cut the box off with a cutting wheel.... for a temporary thing, and try to fit an 04,05 subframe to my 07 frame. 200 is wayyy to much for something like that. I have some scrap stainless laying around my shop, if you send me the flattened (sp?) file, I will waterjet it, and send you 1. That's all you would have to pay for would be shipping and you could prolly bend it yourself......

I had a buddy cut mine off with a zawsaw and then smoothed out the rough edges with a grinder, it looks really good. Pappy has my frame/subframe at the moment, I will post pics of the finished job when I get it back.

That looks very good. I would be interested in purchasing one myself. What are the dimensions where the battery sits?

How is it going to be mounted to the sub-frame?

And what modifications are you gonna need to to to the cables? If any.

Other than that, mount'er up and snap some more pictures!!

looks great Dober:cool:

as soon as I get the box, I'm going to get some pics of how it mounts. There will be 4 bolts that go thru it, and more or less "pinch" it to the subframe. You will need to make both the positive and negative battery cables just a tad longer, as well as cut out the plastic tray where your tool pack resides. The very back portion of the stock airbox lid may have to be trimmed as well. There will also be a seperate bracket that holds the battery in place that I'm working up a design on now.

the CAD dimensions for that area are: 7.6" L X 4.65" W X 4.8" H

actual formed dimensions may be slightly different

You can see a paper model I made in the background of the first picture. I almost sent you that as a joke :D and had the real thing in a different box. You can also see 1 of my 2 flat panel monitors. Have 2 monitors is the best thing, I think all computers should come with a dual monitor set up.

That would have been funny..I would have been cursing, lol.

We have one monitor, and a stupid switchbox here at work, switch between pc and I-Deas workstation.

the only problem with this is the fact that when you cut out the dipped area where the manual resides that will weaken out the plastic and it allow your seat to fall off also-------- i speak of experience.

From using a mocked-up box, I haven't had a problem with my seat coming off yet, but I ride XC mostly. How will it make the seat fall off? The bracket resides on the subframe, not in the plastic.

when you cut the tool pack/manual pocket out to install that battery box -- like you all have talked about--- it will create weaker plastic that will flex side to side--- and when you hit a hard right handed turn just one time the seat will come out from underneath the seat latch and fall off and then you have the rest of the race to set on the subframe and airbox-- cutting off your airflow- that plastic already cracks around the manual box--- if you cut it out it will weaken and it will let your seat fall off. i fixed it though--- with new plastic and pinning the seat in place.--

I just zip-tied mine to the subframe, and taped everything up good. I haven't had any problems so far after 1 local and 2 GNCC races.
