I have a 2000 400ex and I was wondering what the stock sprocket setup is? However I have recently made it a 416ex and I was wondering what the best set up for motorcross would be with 18 inch tires? Also what would be the best with 20 inch tires? Thanks alot.

If it's a 416ex you won't really need to change the gearing because the higher compression allows the quad to push higher gearing easily, example: a stock 400ex with a 14t front sprocket is equivilant to a 416 with a 15t. That's not 100% correct but it's on that trail.

What you could do is go to www.rockymountainatv.com and buy a 14t front sprocket (Primary Drive) Only 7.99 I believe + 7 dollar shipping and just test it out, if you don't like all the torque you get then you could either sell it, keep it, or leave it on your quad.

On my 416ex I have 14/38 (i believe 38 is stock rear sprocket), it works perfect! Although I may get a 40 tooth rear because I want a bit more torque.

Stock setup is 16/38. I run 15/38 with my setup and it works fine. 14/38 will give you more bottom end but you will lose a little top end. :)

stock gearing is 15-38 becuz a 16 tooth front sprocket is to big to run the case saver....i run stock gearing for mx..got a 416 too and its perfect for mx

He's right. Stock on the 2000's was 15/38. When you go to a 16T you either have to remove the case saver or grind it down. I run 20 inch rears with a 416 and a 16T front. It runs great and I like it. (It'll run better when I install my new stage 2 hot cam.) You wont need a 16T for MX. Going up in the front is for top end speed, but takes away from acceleration. You need acceleration more than top end. How many times would you run 5th gear full throttle on the track? Just my opinion...

with my setup i am in 4th most of the time at local tracks...if ne thing go down to a 36 tooth in the rear it wont be as much as a loss in accleration as if you would do a 16 tooth front...and all tracks are different some might be more high speed than others so keep that in mind b4 you change your gear ratio...i mite try a 36 in the rear to see how i like it but rite now at the indoors i am sticking with stock..i am in 2nd and 3rd the whole time
