Kickstart to the Shin

I got a good whack yesterday...and a nice bruise today :cuss:

i hate kicking over my bike without riding boots on. it never happens with those boots. but it always happens when your in flip flops or tennis shoes.

i always try to roll start the bike if i can when i don't have boots on. my dads 250r seems to hurt a crap load more then my 450r too.

my old 330r would beat the piss outta your leg if you slipped. ive never had it hurt as much on a 450 that ive ridden.

my 265R with a hammer ported cylider and 220lbs of compresion kicks back! dont try to start her without riding boots on ,you will regret it!

Lucky me my kick start is a backwords kick so i dont have to wory about hitting my shins

I did it once on a mojave! Swelled up so bad looked like I had an egg under the skin on my shin. Kinda like those cartoons where they get whacked and a giant lump comes up.

I never have that problem anymore. But yes it does hurt like Hell. I love watching my friends try and kick over the R. They get it in the shins everytime. I cant help but laugh at them.lol:D

my 265 gave me 15 stitches on my shin with 7 underneath my skin and 8 above, had a gash an inch and ahalf deep i guess i have soft skin? but sure did that earn my respect to the beast still mnaged sto slip a few more times, but u can be afraid of it.

My buddy had an old 70's Harley Davidson kicker with no compression release. If it didn't start on the 2nd kick you might as well go back in and have a few more beers and give it another try a little while later.

Yeah - try a Kx500 or KTM360EXC

the 450s have backwards kick so it cant hit you that bad...

Last week I busted my shin on a 250r. It hurt pretty bad and left a nice bruise.:(

lol so many 250r storys, My boss's 330r bit me hard..

But the WORST was from his 350x motor in the 87 R, stock they were a pain in the neck to start.. He has motor work to say the least so I'm damn near standing on this thing and the kicker barely moves, I had work boots on.. first kick didnt fire, 2nd, 3rd.. well 3rd it kicked back and jarred me up pretty good, 4th boot slipped and it just murdered my shin..

I dont really think any of the big dirtbikes are to bad to kick but those older harley's can be a mother ****er. I used to have a 250x with a forward kick 350x motor in it with a 12.5.1 compression 425 big bore kit and no compression release because it wouldn't clear the exhaust. If your foot sliped off and it hit you would be in some huge *** pain and want to push it off a cliff. I fractured my foot kicking it with a pair of skate shoes once when it backfired. Thats why I sold it :mad:

my old lt500r if you slipped off when it was a compression kick you would die crying in pain i slipped and shatered 3 inches of my shin and cracked it up bad i couldnt walk properly for at least 5 months so then i sold it i really feel sorry for the guy who has it now

since mines back word kick i dont get hit in the shin the back of my leg hits the plastick so much that it swels all up.

well didnt get it in the shin hard yet. I get it in my ankle. My foot always is in the way and teh R jsut goes up. I was hurt so bad, I went to the doctors and they said my ankle was broke, so I had to get x-rays and it wasnt so I was lucky. It hurt for like a month. I wont start it in my flip flops any more....lol

yea...ive gotten a couple of slips and hit my calf and shin pretty bad. it feels like you cant walk for like the rest of the day, and riding sucks afterwards :mad: lol

a buddy of mine was starting his cr125 in flip flops ands JAMMED his big toe straight down on top of the peg and split it open good!

Man i never new they kick start kick hard enough to break bones and jar stuff. Like i said mines back word kick but i noticed that some times when it fires when im kicking down that the kick start can fly up pritty quick. When my kicker kicks up for me it mostly hurts my uper leg cause ill fling my whole leg up fast. Some times my leg slips in front of the kicker and it smakes me in the leg and it hurts like a mofo but luckly i dont bruse easy or i would have a blue right leg. Avery time i get dune riding my right leg hurts and is shaking from the dang kicker. Kick starts suck *** i cant believe i wanted a kick start. B4 when i had my ex motor which was elec start i always wanted a kick start. First day i got my kick start motor i hated it and wanted a new motor cause the dang kick start.

How many kicks does it take for you guys to get your quads started?

3 squirts of gas and one kick. Everytime.

Man your lucky it takes me for ever and just to get it started my leg shakes like crazy. I hit teh throtle 1 good time then kick and it pops only then if im lucky ill start after 15mins and after it starts i just want a lay down.

I think I better leave the decompression on the 250 when I rebuild it this winter after reading this thread.

yeah i think the kick forward is the worst idea ever...i alwasy try and play it safe when i kick it....i like kick backwards the most, like my banshee its so easy to start

i love the forward kick. It makes it so when you go to start, you can stand on the kicker and just hold all your weight and then just let all hell loose.
