I raced FT for tree years, I now specate
My hubby is racing this year, he runs local Pro.
he is the Red450r #5
We run an indoor short track in the winter
Hopefully we will be able to modify my sway to fit the R next race so he can get better traction(all 4 tireson the ground ..lol!) We got a tire groomer were going to test soon as well to get some more bite.
Currently sitting 2nd in the series so far .

Dang I wish We had flat track here in Northern Indiana:( I had my banshee all built for a begginer type set-up. Even had a lowering kit that a friend had and a stab-bar. Just couldn't find anwyere close or that could stay open to quads more then a year.

Don't ppl undertsand if you open a track to Quads for flat track it may take a couple years to get the word out and get some bussiness? The guy ran it one year and said there wasn't a good enough turn out. WTF give it a few years atleast. It didn't hurt anything cuz he would run it betweem spring car shows.

Sorry I got kidna carried away. I just aint good at MX (hate to jump) and I am decent at XC but dang them trees hurt:scary:

Quads the last few years are just starting to come around locally,we have more FT racers than MX,maybe for same reasons ...

There have been many races we OUTNUMBERED bikes AND Karts:D and we are most DEF. the ones the crowd comes to watch.
Something about quads and Carnage that turn them on I guess.:chinese: lol

we used to outnumber the bikes but over the last few years the quad numbers have gone way done. we're trying hard to build more quad-friendly tracks.

It was just a 250R motor with a Paul Turner mid range port job. The piston developed a crack though and the cylinder was on last bore so I tore it all down and totally re did the motor. Its now running an LRD 270cc cylinder with a YZ250 piston and spacer plate. I haven't really got to dial it in good yet since i rebuilt it, but man I can tell its gonna run WAY better then it did before even.

The quad guys will still probably cook me in the corners, but maybe with enough practice I can hang with em :)

I built this 87 last season to run at 2 local tracks. The oval track averages about 15 to 20 riders a week. The other track is more of a tt style and averages about 10 riders bi-weekly. I'm building another one this winter.

I would like to see 30+ at out oval track but last year was the first year for it, I hope we can get alot more people to show up. We ran one open class for everyone. If we can get 30+ we would run a couple class's. The track owner was all for it last year but every friday there was at least one crash that sent someone to the hospital or off the track in the ambulance so I'm not sure if he's going to run us this season. I'm trying to get ahold of him to see if I can help promote it and keep the inexperienced riders in their own class. We run on a 1/4 mile oval setup for sprints, mini sprints hobby stock and mini stock so the track is nice and wide but we run just about full speed, I know I'm topped out in 5th gear and only let off long enuff to get the rear to slide in the corners. I hit a lapper last season and thought I broke his leg. I tried to go undernieth him but he lost control in his slide and when he let off it shot him right into my path.

I've seen alot of guys come out and try it but they couldn't commit to the corners, the new guys don't even think about taking off their brake lights or unhooking them so I saw alot of braking going on. After the race I would tell them thanks for leaving that brake light hooked up, if they showed up the next friday it was usually unhooked.

SuzukiTT
12-29-2006, 08:57 PM
lol...Very Nice.I Guess Brake Lights Do Give Alot.

This is our first year of quads running by our selves. They just put in a new TT track for this year. Last year they raced Fri. nights with karts and micros and sometime they would have some TT/FT set up quads come and race around the oval(1/4 mile). It was usual just amatures(Stock Quads) racing at night cuz the racing guys couldnt make the fri. nights so when they did come it was a big treat.lol.Last year #66 Nick Paul lost his TRX250R and broke the bottom a-arm mounts off when his quad hit the wall minus him.

Oh yes and i was wondering y your Left hub is on back words?

x.system
12-29-2006, 09:43 PM
That must be the track I was trying to get to last season but the outlaws wern't going to be there. I was trying to set it up so I could run at your track and then another track in Ohio on my way back home.

My rim and hub are on backwards to transfer weight. When you get to the track, watch the left rear on the other quads. When you get into the corner hard the right front will compress and cause the left rear to rise, moving the tire in will keep it planted and you keep traction. You also don't have to lean off the quad as much with that tire under your weight. When I set my swaybar up I use scales under all 4 tires and set it up so there is equal weight on all 4 while I am sitting on it like I would in a corner. Moving the tire in or out will transfer weight, moving it in adds weight to it., moving it out takes weight off and puts in on other tires. This doesn't work on every track, the track in Ohio had such high banks that I ran the left rear the other way and ran on the bottom edge of the bank.

Heres a better view.

I have never been to a FT or TT race. Raced MX for the past 3 years. I am going to try a few FT/TT races this winter. If anyone has tips or suggestions or setup ideas I would appreciate it. I race a 300 that is fully MX setup. Triple rate works on front and raptor on rear, both are spring and rebound adjustable. What all do I need to be competitive? PM's are fine too. Thanks

-Sway Bar
-American Racer or Hoosier FT/TT Tires
-Lower your quad(Lower Preloads-back lower than front)
-Rear Strut(Oval-No Jumps)
-Strong Motor
-May want too change sprokets

Three ears broke off of the stock clutch basket and wedged themselves between the clutch and the side cover, so the motor wouldn't turn over.

2 other guys are on 85 250Rs like mine, and the guy that passed me in the main is on an 85 350x. He was worried he wouldn't be able to hang, but that thing has the low end grunt to really pull them corners good. The track was really slippery, I run a hard compound tire and even with 4 and 2psi in the tires I was still sliding all around everywhere. If I came into the corners any faster I would end up in the outside wall.

Then if he runs the knobby class I think he said he wants to run turf tamers, he says they slide good on pavement & we have LOTS of them that won't hurt my feelings if they get ruined!!

Well obviously he DIDN'T race his quad :( he had equipement issues...................gee I wonder where that sway bar & shocks went  :grr: :ermm: :o dang kid!!
So we scrapped the race, he went out to spectate & ended up racing after all haha, he raced Earl Davis's 250R the one that went upside down I guess, I didn't see Earl wreck but he hurt his shoulder, so he asked DJ to ride since he was just sitting around. DJ done good for never being out there or not knowing the quad ect. I think he ended up 7th or so in the main he had fun but said he wished he'd had HIS quad, gee ya think ;)

I didn't even see you out there :o musta been on the other side of the pits or something, we got there late anyway, we got a call in Burlington(out looking @ motorhomes) that he was going to race :eek2: so we headed to Monroe :)
Got another one in June he will be there w/ his quad I hope!!

Hey SuzukiTT could show some pics of the LT250S Quadsport or send them to Aaronqr67@aol.com . I have one of these rare and unknown quads that is in pretty decent shape except for the motor and rear shock.

Thanks

The Swinger Is Good The Cases Are Great. All It Needs Is Rings And A Gasket Set. This Pic. Is A Lil Older. Cuz I Sold The Quad To My Friend And He Never Reali Rode A Quad Before And He Rolled It And Broke The Back Fender And The Front Was Pretty Much Done. Front Is Now Shaved In Stead Of Broken. Back Has LT230S Plastic On It. Has Wishbone Seat Still Just Not On It. Make Me And Offer?? If Still Interested.

greenblood01
06-09-2007, 09:19 PM
I've never ran any heavily modded 440ex's, but I've beat several 400ex's, a KFX 400, and even a few 450r's and yfz's on the TT track in Moberly. Most people can't beleive it when they get beat my a Mojave.

so im getting ready to get into flat track here, and was wondering. Is it possible to run different size tires on the rear, like an 18 on the inside, and a 19 on the outside, seeing as all we do is turn left anyways?

Yes you can do that or you can run stagger in your tires. I've done both and right now I just run stagger with 19" tires. You can get them to grow if you air them up and leave them out in the sun for a few hours. I made one of my tires quite a bit bigger than the other doing this.
