152 would probably be a good size, i would get a 42pilot, 152,155,158,160, That way you are good for all setups (i.e. w/-w/o abLid, if you get an air filter, or heat/humidity changes.

2005 and Up 400EX's have a non-adjustable needle. It has only 1 position. You'll have to buy a DynoJet Kit which includes a adjustable needle, 9 jets, and the "D" shaped fuel screw you'll need for your quad for $45.00-$55.00 or just buy a 1999 to 2004 needle for $30.00

STOP SHOUTING! (All capital letters)

Yes you can but, if the mid throttle range starts acting funny it will be time for an adjustable needle. I know several people that don't even mess with the needle setting and just change Pilot and Main jets.

The stock pilot jet is a Series 26. The more common Series 21 works fine though. Not sure why everyone around here seems to automatically recommend a 42 pilot jet. I suspect a 40 is the appropriate jet for many people [shrug].

About the needle: a non-adjustable needle can be shimmed up using small washers. This works when a 1/2 clip position adjustment is desired on adjustable needles too.

That might be just fine. It just depends on all the multitude of factors that affect jetting and how adament you are about getting the jetting as close to correct as possible. Doing the above is quick, easy, and certainly better than doing nothing.
