opinons wanted

i know which quad is better questions get asked alot but i was wondering what you guys would do

used 400ex (classic 2004 and later)

used 450r

i dont really leave a quad bone stock for long

since every one is switching to 450s there are 400 parted out in the parts forum like crazy so performance parts wouldnt be hard to come by

but is that for good reason is a good modd 400ex any match for a 450r or should i jsut spend alittle more and get a 450r

which frame handles best

i ride jsut about every terraine possible track trail (i dont go muddin with my sport bikes though) alittle sand

Man I love the 400ex. It may not be the fastest bike out there but it is defenitly one of the most reliable. I don't know about you but I like to ride more than work on bikes. The 450r is also proving itself to be a reliable machine with a win in the baja 1000. I just don't like having to worry about liquid cooling. Another reason i love the 400 is because of the avalibilty of parts like you said. I also feel it is one of the most cheapest bikes to modd. I mean a cam and a little boring goes a long way on that motor. For the right price I would get a 450r but I'm going to lean more towards the 400ex.

thats exactly what i was thinking the chassis are similar from what i understand so they should handle comparably

As similar as they are, they are also very different!

Ya i'm sure that they handle differently, but it's just a matter of getting used to one or the other. If you compare the size of the 400ex to the 450r they are almost identical especially before 2006. One good thing about buying a used bike is that you can find one with exhaust already and maybe some other things so you can concentrate your cash on other stuff. And I tell you what there are some nice 400ex's out there for a decent price. Well whatever you decide your in for a hell of a good time.
