Yesterday I hit a small jump where I ride and when I landed I noticed that gas came rushing out of the gas cap. My first thought was that it wasn't tight but it was. Then I figured it might be cross-threaded but it seemed to be on there straight. I even took it off and on about 5 times and it still leaked each time. Is there a gasket or grommet or something that might have fallen out?? The cap seems to be on there good and straight. I'm kinda confused:confused:

What is a good cap to get if it got messed up somehow??

Anybody? I'm guessing there was a rubber gasket that got lost then I was filling it up...

the gas cap does have a gasket. the slightest crack will cause the gas to leak out. if you want a new gas cap check out rockymountainatv.com

Wipe off all the threads on the filler neck real good. Look for a crack in the filler neck. This is a common problem with Preds.

So if the fille neck is cracked will I have to buy a new gas tank?

I'm not sure there is a good fix for the problem.

Might be a good time for an IMS tank.

Thanks man, that thread on predator owners helps. I am gonna try to find some gas-proof silicone and see if that works.

If not I guess it's time for the IMS tank...

What did you end up doing?

I ordered a tank from a forum member but he scammed me so I need to fix mine .

I havent done anything yet. I rode this weekend and I just tied a rag around the gas cap. I didn't jump or anything so it didn't really leak, plus I was low on gas.

I thought about just heating the plastic up where the crack is and melting it together????

How do you think the heat and flame will react with th gas in the tank and the fumes?;)

People tend to get all freaky when doing anything around a gas tank. I had the guys running for cover when I welded my sump in my race car tank.:D

I would hope that you wouldn't have an open flame near the opening of a gas tank ;)

I was planning on using a soldering iron since the crack is VERY small. I figured if I could heat it up and maybe melt a little bit of it together it might fix it??? We'll see. I guess I cant hurt it huh??

Over on the Predator site there are a few tanks floating around for sale. They generally run $40-$50. I just picked one up (when it finally gets here).

Thanks for the tip. Tank should be shipping shortly...

Anybody know anything I can do to prevent this from happening again??

Sitting on the tank, or even hitting it will cause a break. I plastic welded mine together, it works great now.

Have you checked with you local polaris dealer about a recall on the gas tank? My filler neck cracked on my 06 polaris sled and it was covered. It might be worth a shot.
