newer or older?

what are the diffrences between the older 400ex's and the new ones (05 and up) other then diffrent headlights and the newers ones have reverse?

The internal gear ratios are tweeked a bit but i didnt notice it whe i rode one compared to my 01

the newer ones are quicker out of the hole , but the older ones are faster top end wise.

That's true, but they can't be that much faster top end. And I don't see reverse making it any slower.

ya i dont no how much faster top end wise it is but all i no is it has to be cuz of the gearing and im not sure about the reverse, it is an extra gear so it might make a difference but i doubt its noticeable.

actually the newer ones are faster on top end as well. the final drive ratios are different (15/38 vs. 14/38) but internal ratios have changed as well so my buddies 05 is faster on top end then my 00.

its 15/38 and 14/39. stock 04 vs stock 05 the 04 should beat it top end wise. and what did they change internaly?

its also all in rider weight etc. but i no my buddies 03 is faster then my other buddies 07. top end wise so i dont no but its not that much faster

This is true, honda changed the sprocket sizes, but the tweaked the internal gear ratios to were the 05's actually have a little more top end then the 99+

o really i didnt no that. thats f***** up then cuz my buddies 03 is like half a bike lenth faster then the 07. but i guess theres alot of things that cant make him faster. he way lighther so

all internal gear ratio were changed, to keep final drave ratios similar to the 99-04 models but they were also tweaked to make a a better trail quad.

You got it underpowered. I'm just a hair faster off the line and topped out from my bud(he weighs 160 on an 01' I weigh 180 on an 06').
